Fredrick "Teddy" Kent lives with his crazy mother in the Tansy Patch. He becomes friends with Emily Byrd Starr soon after Emily and Ilse Burnley meet. Teddy has a special call he uses in Lofty John's bush, when he wants to talk to Emily.
In Emily's Quest, Teddy writes a letter to Emily just before he leaves for Montreal. But Teddy's jealous mother steams it open, replaces the romantic letter with a newspaper cutting, and Teddy never knows. This is the reason for Teddy's marriage to Ilse.
All of Emily's friends are very talented. Teddy becomes a world famous painter, painting a little bit of Emily into everything he does.
